What is Egoscue® Therapy?

The Egoscue® Method is postural therapy. It is based on the concept that pain, both chronic and acute, is due to misalignment in the body as it loses its designed posture. The human body is designed to move; however, with most of us becoming more and more sedentary, our bodies begins to develop musculoskeletal dysfunctions and compensations. When those are present, pain and injury set in or are lurking right around the corner. The Egoscue® Method restores the body back to its designed posture, alleviating pain and returning you back to an active, pain free lifestyle. How does Egoscue® work?

Egoscue® uses a series of gentle exercises and stretches to return musculoskeletal balance and symmetry back to your body. It’s no secret that muscles move bones. If your body has lost its designed posture, it’s because muscles have moved your bones into a new, dysfunctional position. Pain is the body’s way of alerting you to the fact that your body isn’t aligned, and therefore isn’t moving properly. Through The Egoscue® Method process, your muscles will be reeducated, being reminded how they need to be functioning in order to maintain proper alignment.

How long will it take for me to see results/feel better?

All of our clients respond differently and on different timelines. That being said, the vast majority of clients feel different after their first visit! The body has an amazing ability to heal itself; you just have to give it a chance. For most of our clients, they didn’t get in to their current position overnight, and they won’t get out of it overnight. Egoscue® is a process, but one with a remarkable 94% success rate since its inception.

Antje Waxman is an Posturtal Alignment Specialist in Charlottesville, VA, certified by Egoscue® University. She offers personal and small group sessions in her office. She also educates and motivates people to understand how alignment is connected to degeneration and pain through public programs, classes and workshops. “Correct alignment is an essential foundation for good health and fitness”, she teaches. Antje is also a certified Nordic Walking instructor.

About the smovey VIBROSWING System

Smovey VIBROSWING-System is a swinging-ring system and consists of a spiraled tube, four steels balls, and a cushioned grip. The passage of the balls creates a vibration of about 60 Hz – a frequency natural to our bodies.

I completed the four week Introduction to Egoscue Workshop led by Antje Waxman in April. About a year ago I underwent a replacement of my left hip. After years of compensating for misaligned pelvic structure my body was not functioning usefully in many ways. For the past year or so, I had experienced extreme lower back pain. I thought I would be able to work through the situation with more stretching and a few trips to the osteopath.
